MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Alex Kemp, a 19-year-old freshman at Williams College, died Tuesday after a ski accident at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Massachusetts, leaving the Lincroft community and beyond in mourning.
The accident occurred Monday on the Cutter black diamond trail, where Kemp, despite wearing a helmet, sustained severe head injuries after going over an embankment, according to authorities. He was rushed to Berkshire Medical Center and later transferred to Baystate Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries the following day. Officials said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol involved.
Kemp, a 2024 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in Lincroft, was a decorated cross-country athlete and standout student. In his senior year, he helped lead CBA to a state cross-country championship, finishing ninth at the NJSIAA Cross Country Meet of Champions and winning the Non-Public A State Championship in the 3200-meter race.
At Williams College, Kemp continued his athletic career as a member of the cross-country team. His coach, Dusty Lopez, praised Kemp’s leadership and character, stating, “Alex had a self-assured, positive, kind way about him, and it was consistent every day. This made him such a valuable member of our team, even in his first year—above and beyond his obvious gifts as an athlete.”
Academically, Kemp excelled, planning to pursue a doctorate in computer science while exploring interests in political science and economics. Williams College professor Dukes Love described Kemp as “one of the strongest students” he had encountered in more than two decades.
