Middletown, NY – A 53-year-old man has been convicted of operating as a major drug trafficker in Orange County, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Following a jury trial, Thedford Browning of Middletown was found guilty of multiple drug and weapons charges, including operating as a major trafficker, first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of third-degree drug possession, and two counts of second-degree weapon possession.
Browning was arrested after a July 25, 2024 raid by Middletown Police and the Orange County Drug Taskforce, which uncovered more than three kilograms of cocaine, a defaced Tech Nine assault weapon, a loaded .38 caliber revolver, over $40,000 in cash, and drug packaging materials from a CubeSmart storage unit and his residence. Authorities said the drugs carried a street value exceeding $200,000.
Prosecutors also presented evidence that Browning sold or arranged sales of cocaine on 15 separate occasions to undercover officers.
District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Browning’s conviction marks the 17th major trafficking case successfully prosecuted since he took office in 2014. Browning is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail and faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced on October 24.
