High Point, NC – A North Carolina mother, Kymberli Bowden, has been charged with child neglect following the discovery of her 13-year-old daughter’s body in their home. The incident occurred during a welfare check by law enforcement on Thursday after they were alerted to the situation.
Bowden, 44, was arrested at her residence where she was discovered under circumstances that the High Point Police Department described as alarming. Inside, officers found not only the deceased girl but also her twin brother, who was alive but in distress.
A probable cause affidavit noted severe unsanitary conditions within the home, filled with trash and rotting food. Investigators assert that Bowden failed to provide adequate food and necessary medical care for her daughter, leading to serious bodily injury and death.
Charges against Bowden include child neglect causing serious bodily injury in addition to concealment of a child’s death. Law enforcement reported that the surviving boy suffered significant psychological harm due to prolonged neglect and trauma from the situation.
Local residents observed police activity at Bowden’s home and noted her being removed on a gurney. Details about her condition during this time were not disclosed.
Bowden is currently held at the Guilford County Jail under a bond of $1 million. Her first court appearance is set for November 17.
