BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A female MTA bus driver was attacked Monday evening during a verbal dispute while operating a B68 bus in Brooklyn, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. in front of 1952 Coney Island Avenue. According to police, the 55-year-old on-duty MTA employee was driving a southbound B68 bus when she became involved in a verbal altercation with an unidentified woman.

During the dispute, the woman became irate and struck the driver multiple times in the face with her purse before fleeing the scene on foot in an unknown direction, authorities said.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the location by emergency medical services. She did not require hospitalization, according to officials.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect, who remains at large as of Tuesday.

The woman being sought is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing around 135 pounds, with brown eyes and red hair.

No surveillance footage or additional identifying information has been made public. Police have not indicated what may have prompted the verbal dispute that preceded the assault.

The incident has raised safety concerns among transit workers in the area, though no formal statements have been released by the MTA.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the NYPD as the investigation continues.
