Multiple Injuries Reported in Afternoon Crash

MANAHAWKIN-On 7/27/18 at 0950 hours the Stafford Police responded to a multi vehicle collision which occurred on Route 72 at Marsha Drive.

A 2013 Ford Focus operated by Barbara Angeline, 73 of Manahawkin was traveling west on Route 72 approaching the intersection of Marsha Drive.

A 2017 Jeep Cherokee operated by Richard Labarbiera Jr, 22 of Paramus, NJ was traveling north on Marsha Drive crossing over Route 72 when his vehicle was impacted by Angeline’s vehicle. Angeline’s vehicle then struck a 2009 Chrysler Van operated by Susan Destefanis, 61 of Manahawkin who was also traveling north on Marsha Drive crossing Route 72.

Angeline’s vehicle came to final rest after striking two other vehicles waiting at a red traffic signal on the opposite side of Marsha waiting to travel south.

Angeline sustained severe injury and was transported to Jersey Shore Trauma Center for treatment by Monoc medivac. Destefanis was transported by PennStar medivac to Atlantic City Trauma Center. Angeline’s passenger Johannah Griffin, 91 of Ship Bottom sustained fatal injury from the collision.

Other driver’s involved sustained minor injury and were transported to South Ocean Medical Center for treatment.

The right lane of Route 72W was closed during the investigation. Preliminary investigation shows Angleine failed to obey a red traffic signal for Route 72 E/W.

Patrolman Justin Pascale is the investigating officer. He was assisted by Patrolman Allen Jillson, Ptl Mike Morrin, Ptl John Morrin and Ptl Rob Woodring.
