MYRTLE BEACH, SC — City Manager Fox Simons signed an executive order Tuesday expanding the city’s juvenile curfew to 9:00 p.m. in designated areas for two consecutive weekends: July 10–13 and July 17–20.
The temporary expansion applies to individuals 17 and under in key areas of downtown Myrtle Beach, including much of Ocean Boulevard and nearby zones stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to Kings Highway between 13th Avenue South and 21st Avenue North. A smaller area west of Kings Highway, near Broadway Street between 7th and 9th Avenues North, is also included.
During the curfew period, minors are prohibited from being in these areas or on city-owned property such as beaches, parks, beach accesses, and hotel common areas between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The executive order follows the first reading of a proposed ordinance on July 8. A second reading is scheduled for July 22. If approved, the curfew expansion would become permanent.
Outside of the designated zone, the city’s existing juvenile curfew of 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. remains in effect.
Exemptions apply for minors engaged in work, travel, emergencies, or those accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. “This is just one piece of the puzzle in addressing a larger problem,” officials said in a statement, urging public cooperation.
Both minors and their parents or guardians may be held accountable for violations under the curfew policy.
