NOVATO, CA – Navitas Organics has issued a voluntary recall of select lots of its 8-ounce Organic Chia Seeds after routine testing by a supplier raised concerns about potential Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.
The precautionary recall, announced January 23, affects products distributed nationally through major retailers including Whole Foods Market and online sellers such as Amazon. The company said it has not received any reports of illnesses or adverse health effects linked to the recalled products.
The recall covers Navitas Organics 8oz Organic Chia Seeds, UPC 858847000284, with lot codes beginning with “W” listed below, printed above the nutritional label on the back of the pouch:

W31025311, W31025314, W31025315, W31025316, W31025317 (Best If Used By: End MAY 2027).

Navitas CEO Ira Haber said the company initiated the recall “out of an abundance of caution” and emphasized its commitment to providing safe, healthy foods. “Providing safe, healthy food for our customers is why we have been in business this long and it’s why we are recalling this product today,” Haber said.
Salmonella infection can cause serious illness, particularly among children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The company advises consumers to discard any affected product and dispose of the packaging to prevent reuse.

Customers may return the recalled chia seeds to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Navitas Organics at 855-215-5702, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, for product replacement or additional information.
Navitas Organics said it is cooperating with the FDA during the recall process and apologized for the inconvenience to customers.
