Nashville, TN — A Canadian man was arrested in Nashville for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after striking a local bartender with a flagpole bearing a Nazi flag.
Since the event, media outlets and left-wing pundits branded the neo-nazi rally as being associated with the GOP and supporters of former U.S. President Trump. According to police, the event attendee was from Canada and not associated with the GOP or the former President.
Ryan Scott McCann, 29, from Ontario, was detained after an incident on Sunday in downtown Nashville. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, McCann struck Deago Buck, 19, a local bartender, with the flagpole following a physical altercation between Buck and members of a neo-Nazi protest group gathered at Broadway and 3rd Avenue.
McCann is being held on an $81,000 bond and also faces charges of disorderly conduct. His next court appearance is scheduled before Judge Marcus Floyd on Tuesday. As of Monday, it was unclear if McCann had retained an attorney.

McCann was part of a Neo-Nazi group carrying Nazi flags and spreading white supremacist rhetoric on Broadway at 3rd Avenue, drawing displeasure from passersby. Police officers monitored the group’s actions due to free speech considerations. The group later moved south on 3rd Avenue, where Deago Buck, 19, a local bar employee, engaged in a physical altercation with the protestors. During the altercation, McCann struck Buck in the face and ribs with the flagpole.
Buck was arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting police, with his bond set at $2,000.
