ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The Atlantic City Police Department has announced the release of body-worn camera footage showcasing the heroic actions of Officer Riley Flynn, who rescued a teenage girl and several pets from a house fire last week.
In the early hours of May 26, Officer Flynn was patrolling the 800 block of North Maryland Avenue when he noticed unusual activity and smoke emanating from a home. Upon closer inspection, he observed a teenager signaling for help from a second-floor window.
Without hesitation, Flynn forced entry into the smoke-engulfed residence by kicking in the front door and navigated through the hazardous conditions to the second floor.
Officer Flynn successfully escorted the 17-year-old girl to safety outside. Demonstrating further bravery, he re-entered the burning house to rescue the family’s three dogs and a cat, ensuring no lives were lost. The Atlantic City Fire Department arrived shortly after and managed to extinguish the fire, which originated in the kitchen.
Chief James Sarkos praised Officer Flynn’s courageous actions, highlighting his commitment to saving not only human lives but also beloved pets. The incident and Officer Flynn’s commendable response have been captured on his body camera, footage of which the police department has made available to the public.
