LAKEHURST, NJ – A former employee at an Ocean County gas station known to typically have the cheapest gasoline prices in the area has been arrested after being lured back to the station during a credit card fraud investigation.
Lakehurst Police Chief Matthew Kline has identified an individual linked to consumer fraud allegations at the Fuel 4 Gas Station on 99 Route 70. Lakehurst Police alerted the Department of Consumer Affairs following a complaint involving a skimming device at the gas station, which captures credit card data from unsuspecting consumers.
The fraudulent activity reportedly started in August 2023, with the most recent complaint filed in April. Following routine inspections by the Division of Weights and Measures, which checks for such devices, the gas station’s management terminated the implicated individual last month.
The suspect, identified as Sukhchain Singh, was apprehended when he was lured back to the station under the guise of re-employment.
Singh, formerly of Lakehurst and recently residing in Brooklyn, NY, allegedly photographed consumers’ credit card information to make personal purchases, leading to thousands of dollars in fraud.
He was arrested by Officer Christian Hernandez and faces charges including fraudulent use of a credit card and theft. Following his arrest, Singh was detained at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River and later released after his bail reform pre-trial hearing.
