New Jersey governor calls for immediate impeachment of Kristi Noem

TRENTON, NJ – Somebody needs to remind Mikie Sherrill that she is now the governor of New Jersey, and not a far-left Congresswoman anymore.

The New Jersey Governor called Monday for the immediate impeachment of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following the fatal shooting of a Minnesota man by a border patrol agent, a case that has ignited fresh national outrage over federal immigration enforcement.

Sherrill, who was sworn in as governor last week, made the remarks during an interview with WNYC, urging Congress to remove Noem and to suspend federal immigration operations nationwide pending investigation.

“There needs to be a stand-down from duty,” she said. “All of these agents are acting completely outside the scope of their duties. It’s dangerous, and it should not be acceptable to anyone — Democrat, Republican alike, should all be calling for this to end immediately.”

Her comments followed those of Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen, who on Sunday became the first member of Congress to call for Noem’s impeachment. The growing calls for accountability come amid public protests in Minneapolis after the killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse who was shot multiple times during a confrontation with immigration agents on Saturday while armed with a handgun.

It was the second fatal agent-involved shooting in the city this month.

Federal officials said Pretti approached agents “with a gun to inflict maximum damage on individuals and to kill law enforcement,” claiming the shooting was an act of self-defense. However, video footage circulating online appears to show an agent disarming Pretti before another agent fires several shots. Minneapolis police confirmed that Pretti was legally licensed to carry a firearm.

Other reports claim Pretti did not have his gun permit or conceal carry permit on his persons during the confrontation, in violation of Minnesota state law.

Sherrill accused the Trump administration of misleading the public about the circumstances of the killing.

“They are completely backed up by the president’s administration in their wrongdoing in their actions against the American people,” she said, calling the incident “a crime committed by that police force.”

As national scrutiny intensifies, congressional leaders face mounting pressure to open hearings into the shooting and to assess whether DHS under Noem’s direction has violated civil rights protections during immigration operations.

  • Governor Mikie Sherrill called for the immediate impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem
  • The demand follows the fatal shooting of Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti by federal agents
  • Video evidence appears to contradict federal claims that the shooting was self-defense
