NEWARK, NJ — Two Newark residents were arrested on Tuesday after a dramatic police chase involving a stolen vehicle. Omar Deas, 25, and Rahmir Singletary, 21, face multiple charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, conspiracy, and resisting arrest.

The incident unfolded on May 29, 2024, at approximately 4:37 PM when the Motor Vehicle Crimes North Unit (MVCNU), part of the Auto Theft Task Force, spotted a black 2012 Audi A5.

The vehicle, reported stolen earlier that day from Chatham, NJ, became disabled in Newark due to a tire deflation device previously deployed by law enforcement.

After the vehicle stopped at an intersection, Deas and Singletary abandoned it and fled on foot. Following a brief pursuit, both suspects were apprehended. They have been lodged in Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.
