New jersey to celebrate world's largest annual music event on june 21

NEW JERSEY—Make Music Day, the world’s largest annual music event, will be celebrated across New Jersey on Friday, June 21, featuring hundreds of free outdoor music-making events. Supported by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, six cities including Atlantic City, Englewood, Fair Lawn, Montclair, Newark, and Paterson will host this global celebration.

Originating in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day now spans across thousands of cities in 120 countries. Unlike traditional music festivals, this event welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to participate in music making, reflecting a diverse mix of music and cultural backgrounds.

The event, celebrated on the summer solstice, encourages communities to transform public spaces into musical stages, where amateurs and professionals alike can share their music. New Jersey’s involvement aligns with Governor Phil Murphy’s mission to bolster the state’s arts and culture community, contributing significantly to local economic vitality.

Highlights across the state include Atlantic City’s “Midtown Make Music Day” with a range of performances and activities, Englewood’s interactive music sessions, Fair Lawn’s mobile Car-aoke, and Montclair’s 11th annual celebration with numerous pop-up performances. Newark and Paterson are set to host various music activities and live performances, contributing to a vibrant cultural scene.
