NEW YORK — Authorities are continuing the investigation into the fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare and Retirement division. Today, police have released new photos that appear to show the suspect sitting in the back seat of a vehicle shortly after the crime.
Thompson, 50, was gunned down Wednesday morning in front of 1335 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan. Officers responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. and found Thompson unconscious with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported to Mount Sinai West hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The newly released images, obtained from surveillance footage, show the alleged shooter sitting in the rear passenger seat of a car, though investigators have not specified whether the vehicle was part of an escape plan. Police have not yet identified the suspect, and no arrests have been made.
Brian Thompson, a resident of Maple Grove, Minnesota, was a prominent executive at UnitedHealth Group and had been visiting New York City at the time of the shooting. His death has shocked both his local community and the healthcare industry.
Authorities are continuing to pursue leads and have urged anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle to contact law enforcement.
