New Speed Limits, Stop Signs on Toms River Roads Approved

In February, the council approved ordinances to reduce the speed limits on two major roadways and install blinking light stop signs at key intersections in the township.

Two of the ordinances reduced speed limits on Yorktowne Boulevard and Hovsons Boulevard.  These ordinances reduced speed limits from 35 mph to 25 miles per hour for the entire length of both roadways.

Another ordinance will make the intersections of Yorktown & Mount Carmel a four-way stop.  The intersection has seen a large number of accidents at the intersection and residents have been requesting changes for years.  The township will be installing 4 blinking light stop signs at the intersection to reduce the number of accidents.

At the township council meeting, Councilwoman O’Toole said the problems had been unanswered by the township for years and looks forward to the new improvements approved by the council that night.
