NEWARK, N.J. – Isidro Fernandez, a 35-year-old New York resident, admitted in Newark federal court to illegal possession of cocaine and fentanyl for distribution purposes, as stated by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Fernandez’s guilty plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden, following a charge of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

Court documents and statements revealed that on February 26, 2021, law enforcement officers discovered over 5 kilograms of cocaine and over 3 kilograms of fentanyl. These were recovered from a residence in Passaic County linked to Fernandez and from a vehicle observed departing from the location. Fernandez conceded to possessing these controlled substances with distribution intent.

The offense carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine up to $1 million. Sentencing is set for May 2, 2024. The New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, consisting of agents and officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration, New York City Police Department, and New York State Police, was credited by U.S. Attorney Sellinger for their investigative efforts leading to the guilty plea.
