New York Toddler Found Safe After Police Search Across Two States

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A 3-year-old boy missing since early February was found safe Wednesday following a multi-jurisdictional search led by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, officials said.

Investigators located the child at his maternal grandmother’s home in Queens. He was dirty but appeared to be in good health and was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation.

Authorities launched the search after the child and his mother vanished from a temporary housing facility in Westchester County.

The investigation spanned four counties and two states, with law enforcement agencies and social services officials working around the clock to locate him.

The mother and her boyfriend were arrested on multiple outstanding larceny warrants, officials said.

“I am relieved to hear that investigators from my office located this child and that he was found in good health,” District Attorney Susan Cacace said. “Our office worked day and night to determine his whereabouts and bring him to safety.”

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Mount Vernon and Yonkers police departments, the New York City Police Department, the Paterson Police Department, and Westchester County social services officials.

The charges against the defendants remain accusations, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
