NEWARK, NJ – Per Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara, just after 7:50 p.m. last night, Newark Firefighters responded to 206 Calcutta Street on a call of a fire involving a pile of metal in a scrapyard at EMR Recycling.
The Fire Division is working with the scrap yard’s heavy equipment operators to move and spread out the metal so that it can be extinguished. No injuries have been reported.
Some 40 firefighters were at the scene, which remains active. The Newark Fire Division used Essex County’s Neptune System to pull water from a nearby river. The system can pump 10,000 gallons of water per minute.
