Newark Man Arrested for Impersonating Police and Drug Possession

Newark, DE — A Newark man has been charged with impersonating a police officer following an incident at the Suburban Plaza Shopping Center on Suburban Drive. Newark Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene on February 22 after receiving reports of an unconscious individual in a vehicle.

Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a man, later identified as Brian Carter, 46, of Newark, unconscious in the driver’s seat of a parked car. Visible within the vehicle were suspected narcotics, and Carter was found wearing a tactical-style vest marked with the word “Police.”

After being revived, it became apparent that Carter was under the influence of drugs. He was apprehended without any issues. Further investigation revealed that Carter is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency.

A subsequent search of Carter’s vehicle unearthed suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. Following his arrest, Carter was taken to the Newark Police headquarters, where he faced several charges. These include criminal impersonation of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, and driving under the influence of drugs.

Carter was presented before Justice of the Peace Court #2 via video link, where he was ordered to be detained in lieu of $8,000 cash bail. He was subsequently transferred to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington for custody.
