Newark officials warn of flooding, hazardous roads ahead of wintry mix

NEWARK, N.J. — City officials are warning residents of potential flooding and dangerous road conditions as a wintry mix of snow, rain, and sleet is expected to hit early Thursday morning.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said snowfall could begin after 4 a.m., with accumulations of less than an inch, followed by freezing rain and sleet through midday. Rain is forecasted between noon and 3 p.m., with additional light snow and sleet possible.

Residents are urged to follow the city’s “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations, as signage has been posted on designated streets. Officials also advised securing outdoor furniture, awnings, and loose materials to prevent hazards.

The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding, and other weather-related incidents through the combined efforts of police, fire, and emergency management personnel.
