NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating a Newark man wanted for questioning in connection with an aggravated assault shooting that left one person wounded last week.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. announced Thursday that police are searching for Eric D. James, 57, in relation to the February 6 shooting at Georgia King Village, an apartment complex in the city’s West Ward.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 9:42 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen and near his buttocks. A second man, who was speaking with the victim at the time of the shooting, was uninjured except for a graze to his snow boot. He refused medical treatment after falling down a staircase during the gunfire.
Police recovered three 9mm shell casings near the staircase and entryway of the complex, located in the 200 block of Georgia King Village. The wounded victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
James is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing approximately 220 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact authorities.
