NEWARK, DE — Newark City Councilwoman Dwendolyn “Wendy” Creecy was arrested late Friday night after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing into four parked cars along Madison Drive, according to Newark Police.

Officers responded at approximately 11:58 p.m. on March 28 to the 100 block of Madison Drive, where they found a vehicle had struck several unoccupied parked cars. The driver, identified as Creecy, 54, was present at the scene when officers arrived.

“Evidence was gathered indicating that Creecy was impaired at the time of the crash,” Newark Police said in a statement. The vehicle Creecy was driving was disabled in the crash and later towed.

Creecy, a Democrat and newly elected representative for District 4, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to have insurance identification in possession, and failure to remain within a single lane. She was processed at Newark Police Headquarters, issued paperwork for upcoming court appearances, and then transported back to her residence.

She is from Philadelphia.

Creecy, who previously served as Council-at-Large and has a background in education and public service, began her political career in Pennsylvania and ran for office to address issues such as infrastructure, community safety, and youth engagement in Newark.

She currently serves as COO of a family-owned décor business and is a Temple University graduate with prior teaching experience in allied health programs. The councilwoman was not reported to be injured in the crash, and no one else was harmed.
