North Carolina teens charged with attempted murder after Myrtle Beach police pursuit

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Two North Carolina residents, including a 17-year-old, are facing multiple felony charges following a vehicle pursuit and shooting involving Myrtle Beach police officers Thursday morning.

The incident began around 8:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Ocean Boulevard when officers attempted to approach a suspicious vehicle with four masked occupants. As officers neared, the vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit during which someone inside the vehicle opened fire at pursuing officers, according to police.

The chase concluded near 67th Avenue North and North U.S. Highway 17 after the suspect vehicle crashed. All four occupants were taken into custody at the scene. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

Riley Pegram, 17, of Brown Summit, North Carolina, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a stolen vehicle, and failure to stop.

Omarion Glass, 20, of Greensboro, North Carolina, is also facing three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, and use or employment of a person under 18 to commit certain crimes.

Two suspects released after detention

The Myrtle Beach Police Department confirmed that the two other individuals initially detained during the incident have since been released to state custody and are not facing charges at this time.

Authorities have not specified which suspect fired the weapon or the circumstances of the kidnapping charge. Investigators continue to review the sequence of events that led to the charges.

“Thankfully, no officers or community members were injured,” the department stated in a public update posted on Facebook.
