Ocean County Drunk Driver Had Active Pennsylvania Warrant

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A driver arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Ocean County is now also facing complications tied to an out-of-state warrant, according to jail records. Shaun Jeffrey Roberts, described as a white male with gray hair and blue eyes, was booked into the Ocean County Jail on May 2 after officers charged him with multiple traffic-related offenses, including drunk driving.

The arrest escalated after authorities discovered Roberts had an active warrant connected to Pennsylvania, adding another layer to what began as a local traffic stop. Records show a detainer issued by Readington Police Department, indicating coordination between jurisdictions following the arrest.

Traffic Stop Leads to Broader Legal Trouble

Roberts faces several charges tied to the incident, including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and operating a vehicle while his license was revoked. Each offense is classified as a traffic-related violation under New Jersey law but can carry serious penalties, particularly when combined.

The presence of a revoked license charge suggests Roberts was not legally permitted to drive at the time of the stop, compounding the severity of the DWI allegation.

Authorities have not released details about where in Ocean County the stop occurred or whether any crash or injuries were involved.

Warrant and Detainer Add Interstate Dimension

The case took a more serious turn with the identification of an active warrant out of Pennsylvania. A detainer filed under complaint number S 2025 000017 lists Readington Police Department as the issuing agency, signaling that Roberts may face transfer or additional proceedings once local charges are addressed.

Detainers are typically used to ensure that a defendant is held for another jurisdiction, preventing release before the outside agency can take custody.
