Ocean county mourns loss of dedicated longtime comminity and public servant

Robert P. Lamb, a lifelong public servant and third-generation resident of Lavallette, New Jersey, died on May 2 at the age of 66.

A decorated police officer, firefighter, martial artist, and councilman, Lamb dedicated his life to service, family, and the safety of his community.

Lamb served as a Lavallette Police Officer for over 26 years and as a firefighter for more than 50 years with the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company, Station 69—an organization founded by his grandfather, Peter Eagle, in 1912. His long career in public safety was marked by an unwavering commitment to the residents of his hometown.

After graduating from Point Pleasant Beach High School, Lamb balanced night shifts as a police officer while commuting to Connecticut to attend law school. He practiced law following his retirement from the force and served as a Lavallette Councilman for over two decades, applying his legal expertise and first responder experience to civic leadership.

Known for bodysurfing at sunset and his disciplined martial arts practice, Lamb held a Third Level Dan in Isshin-Shorinji-Ryu for nearly 50 years. His daily dedication to the discipline reflected the values of strength and balance he lived by.

Politically, Lamb was known as ‘one of the good guys’ in politics, rooting out corruption, putting his community first, and avoiding the pitfalls of getting too deep in the weeds with political elites.

Funeral services set for Saturday at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals

Lamb is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen, and four children—Toms River Council President Justin D. Lamb (Ashley), Zachary Lamb (Brianna), Victoria Chester (Mathew), and Jillian Lamb—as well as three grandchildren.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Barry and Alan, along with many extended family members and fellow first responders.

He was predeceased by his parents, James D. Lamb and Mildred Lamb (née Eagle).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Avenue in Lavallette. A funeral service is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company, Station 69, in his memory.
