One Dead in Jamaica Plain shooting; suspect apprehended

BOSTON, MA – A man was fatally shot in Jamaica Plain on Friday night, according to law enforcement officials.

At about 9:22 p.m. on Friday, officers from District E-13 were dispatched to 277 Centre St. following a Shot Spotter activation and reports of gunfire.

Responding officers found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was transported by Boston EMS to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

During the investigation, officers recovered several firearms at the scene.

Additionally, officers pursued and apprehended an adult male identified as Edwin Vinales, 19, of Boston, who discarded a firearm at the scene.

The police recovered a semi-automatic firearm with an extended magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition from Vinales.

Edwin Vinales was arrested and faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
