NEW JERSEY — More than 31,000 JCP&L customers remain without power across Ocean and Monmouth counties following a Thursday night storm that brought damaging winds and widespread outages, utility officials said Friday.
The high winds downed trees and power lines across both counties, prompting emergency road closures and ongoing repair efforts by utility crews and local authorities.
As of Friday morning, JCP&L crews are assessing damage and working to restore service. There is no estimated time of full restoration, but officials say work will continue throughout the day.
Road closures, storm cleanup underway
In Marlboro Township, several major roads remain closed due to storm damage, including Route 79 between Route 520 and School Road West, Route 520 between Crine Road and Emerald Drive, and Robertsville Road between Palomino Way and Cross Ridge Circle. Traffic signals are also out at multiple intersections.
Officials urge residents to avoid travel unless necessary and not to drive around barricades or downed wires, which should be considered energized and dangerous.
A severe overnight storm knocked out power to tens of thousands across the Jersey Shore, with cleanup and restoration work continuing into the weekend.
