PARSIPPANY, N.J. — The Parsippany Police Department issued a warning to parents Wednesday, reminding them that certain electric vehicles, often mistaken for bicycles, are not street legal and pose safety concerns when operated on public roads.

In a message shared on Facebook, police emphasized that these vehicles do not meet legal requirements for road use. Officers will begin strict enforcement of laws regarding these types of vehicles, which include electric bikes and scooters not registered for street operation.

Violators may receive multiple citations, including operating an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

“MLPD understand’s kids want to have fun, but this has gone beyond fun, it’s now a serious safety concern,” the department stated.

The police urged parents to ensure that these vehicles remain off public roads to help maintain safety for both riders and the community.
