Authorities allege a 20-year-old Passaic man opened fire on three people during a Fourth of July shooting before surrendering to police more than two weeks later.

Paterson, NJ – A Passaic man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a Fourth of July shooting that injured three people in Passaic, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman.

Orlando Bravo, 20, turned himself in to the Passaic Police Department on July 21 after detectives identified him as the alleged shooter in the July 4 incident near Essex Street and Third Street.

Bravo is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.

Three victims injured in Fourth of July shooting

Police responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 4 to reports of a shooting involving multiple victims.

Officers found three people suffering from gunshot-related injuries: a 22-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, and a 34-year-old man, all of Passaic.

All three victims were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.

Investigators also secured a potential crime scene in the area of Essex Street and Third Street as detectives began processing evidence.

Suspect surrendered with assistance from fugitive task force

According to prosecutors, the investigation determined Bravo was responsible for the shooting.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on July 21, Bravo surrendered to the Passaic Police Department and was arrested without incident.

The U.S. Marshals Service and the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force assisted Passaic police detectives in arranging Bravo’s surrender.

Prosecutors said they will seek to have Bravo detained pending trial.
