Man killed crossing Route 40 in Hamilton Township after being struck by two vehicles

Hamilton Township, NJ — A 44-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township was killed Thursday night after being hit by two vehicles while attempting to cross Route 40, police said.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:38 p.m. at the intersection of Route 40 and Cantillon Boulevard. According to the Township of Hamilton Police Department, Michael Alvarez was crossing the roadway when he was struck by a westbound 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Jocelyn Valencia, 48, of Vineland.

Immediately after the initial impact, Alvarez was struck again by a 2015 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound. The driver of that vehicle was identified as Tauheedah Hadi, 45, of Mays Landing.

Alvarez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and both drivers remained on location following the crash.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was processed and documented by responding authorities.

The investigation is ongoing. The Township of Hamilton Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 609-625-2700 x 574.

The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Mays Landing Fire Department, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
