Pennsylvania Illegal Deported After Fraudulent Entry into U.S.

SCRANTON, PA – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the indictment of Camilo Antonio Batz-Ortiz, a 40-year-old native of Guatemala, for illegally reentering the United States and possessing a fraudulent immigration document. The indictment, issued by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2024, charges Batz-Ortiz with returning to the U.S. after a previous deportation without legal authorization.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that Batz-Ortiz was deported on September 9, 2013, and was later found in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, on March 4, 2024, without permission to reenter. During his encounter with authorities, he was found in possession of a counterfeit Permanent Resident Card.

The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Tatum Wilson and was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Removal Operations (ERO). The charges underscore the federal government’s ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and address document fraud.
