WASHINGTON — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has messed around. Now, he’s finding out that ICE Director Tom Homan is serious. Today, New Jersey became the first state to see a former ICE detention facility reopened ahead of an impending major immigration crackdown in New Jersey.

Under Governor Murphy’s leadership, New Jersey has become one of several major ‘sanctuary states’ for illegal criminal migrants.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the reopening of the Delaney Hall Facility in Newark, New Jersey, as a federal immigration detention center. The 1,000-bed facility will resume operations following an agreement with its owner.

“This detention center is the first to open under the new administration,” said acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello. “The location near an international airport streamlines logistics, and helps facilitate the timely processing of individuals in our custody as we pursue President Trump’s mandate to arrest, detain and remove illegal aliens from our communities.”

The facility’s reopening will expand ICE’s detention capacity in the Northeast, supporting the agency’s growing enforcement and removal operations in the region.

ICE’s decision to reopen Delaney Hall marks a significant expansion of federal immigration detention efforts under the Trump administration.
