Philadelphia DA charges 16-year-old in two homicides and multiple shootings

September 6, 2024

PHILADELPHIA — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with two murders and several non-fatal shootings in connection with a series of violent incidents that occurred in August 2024, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Aidan Waters, born April 19, 2008, and a member of the street group Fastbreak, is facing multiple charges, including two counts of murder, six counts of attempted murder, and several firearm violations. The charges stem from three separate shootings in the city.

On August 18, Waters and a co-conspirator allegedly opened fire on a 43-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy near the 500 block of Sentner Street. Investigators recovered 16 rounds from a 7.62 caliber weapon, often associated with assault rifles, and nine 9mm shell casings from the scene. Surveillance footage captured a gray Hyundai Sonata, which police later determined was used in the attack.

The following morning, Waters is accused of being involved in a double shooting on the 200 block of East Duncannon Avenue that left 16-year-old Marquise Sanders dead and five others wounded. Investigators again linked the shooting to the same Hyundai Sonata, which was found torched later that day.

On August 23, Waters allegedly shot and killed 25-year-old Abdul Vicks, a Philadelphia rap artist and leader of the Young Bag Chasers street group, on West Olney Avenue. A stolen Kia Sportage, found burned on North 15th Street later that afternoon, was linked to the shooting.

The Philadelphia Police Department, using forensic evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements, connected Waters to the crimes. Multiple firearms were recovered from his residence during a search.

District Attorney Larry Krasner said the charges represent part of the city’s broader efforts to combat gun violence. Waters is now facing charges in connection with multiple shootings that shook the city in August.
