PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man accused of animal cruelty and neglect after deputies discovered three dogs living in unsanitary conditions at an East Deer home he had vacated.

Christopher Edmunds is facing eight misdemeanor charges and 11 summary counts after allegedly abandoning the animals at a residence on W. 8th Avenue following an eviction order last Thursday. Deputies arrived at the property and found the dogs alone inside with no access to water and feces covering the home’s floors.

Edmunds later admitted by phone that he had left the property a week earlier, claiming the dogs had food and water. After being informed that he could face criminal charges, Edmunds abruptly ended the call and has not been located since.

Due to concerns that a local shelter might euthanize the dogs, deputies contacted Animal Friends, who accepted one of the animals. The remaining two were taken in by Big Easy Dog Daze, a pet care facility in Lawrenceville.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus credited his deputies and both animal organizations with saving the dogs’ lives. “Without the coordinated effort it is almost certain that these three dogs would not be alive today,” he said.
