Police Continue Cold Case Investigation of 1992 Murder of 17 Year Old Elva Poore

ODESSA, DE – It was a warm late spring morning in Odessa when police discovered the body of 17-year-old Elva J. Poore along the edge of US 13 North. The date was June 17, 1992, and the discovery was made at 8:13 am when the body of a white female was discovered along the edge of US 13, north of Odessa.

Poore, Chesapeake City, Maryland resident was on the way to Ocean City when she was last seen alive by friends and family. She was on her way to celebrate senior week, but didn’t tell her parents. Instead, told them she was staying at a friend’s house locally.

“On June 17, 1992, at 8:13 a.m., the body of a white female was discovered along the edge of US 13, north of Odessa. The victim was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.  The Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death as a Homicide. Elva was approximately 5′ 4″, 105 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes,” police reported.

According to investigators still working the case, Elva Poore left her residence on Sunday, June 14, 1992, and traveled to Ocean City, with four friends from Chesapeake City. The purpose of the trip was to celebrate “Senior Week.” She did not tell her parents she was going on the trip but did leave a note stating she would be away with a friend.

“While in Ocean City, Elva stayed with other friends at the Ocean Lodge Motel, but they were asked to leave due to excessive noise,” police said. “She was last seen walking from Ocean Lodge Motel to the Admiral Hotel in Ocean City at 3:00 a.m. on June 16th. She was not seen again by anyone who knew her.”
