Police continue invesigation of decomposed body found in Manchester wildlife area, no threat to public

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Authorities are investigating the discovery of a man’s body in an advanced state of decomposition in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The Manchester Township Police Department was alerted to the remains on December 14, prompting a coordinated response by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, New Jersey State Police Major Crime Bureau, and the Manchester Township Police Department.

Investigators have not disclosed the identity of the deceased or details surrounding the circumstances of the death but assured the public that there is no known danger at this time. “We are actively investigating the circumstance surrounding this death,” Prosecutor Billhimer said in a statement.

The scene was examined by crime scene investigation units from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and New Jersey State Police, with assistance from New Jersey Conservation Police officers. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather evidence and determine what led to the man’s death.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact Detective Alex Bromley at the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office or the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Bureau.
