Police dismantle illegal car rallies across Maryland, arrest three individuals

January 2, 2025

LAUREL, Md. — A coordinated effort by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force (MCRTF) and partner law enforcement agencies led to the arrests of three individuals, including one juvenile, while dismantling and preventing multiple illegal car rallies on New Year’s Eve, officials announced Wednesday.

The task force responded to a planned large-scale car rally expected to draw participants from Maryland and neighboring states between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on December 31. The rally, intended to involve roadway shutdowns and exhibition driving in industrial areas, public streets, and parking lots, was focused on locations across Prince George’s County and Baltimore.

MCRTF successfully dismantled four illegal exhibition driving events during the night and prevented five additional rallies from forming in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County.

“This operation was a coordinated effort to maintain public safety and deter illegal and disruptive activities,” the Maryland State Police said in a statement.

Officials have not released the names of the arrested individuals or additional details about the charges.
