Man armed with knife shot and killed by police in Westminster
WESTMINSTER, Mass. — A man armed with a knife was shot and killed by police after confronting officers inside a home in Westminster, authorities said.
Officers responded around 4:42 p.m. on March 23 to a residence on South Ashburnham Road to serve an arrest warrant on a 22-year-old man.
During the encounter, officials said the suspect held a large knife and moved toward officers, prompting them to open fire.
Police said officers immediately provided medical aid after the shooting.
The man was taken to a hospital and later transferred to a Worcester-area facility, where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities said the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues, which is standard procedure.
The case is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, along with Westminster Police.
