TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin criticized the idea of a presidential pardon for Hunter Biden, stating on Saturday that such an action could undermine confidence in the nation’s legal and political institutions.
Platkin, addressing the issue in a statement, emphasized the importance of consistent accountability in governance and law enforcement. “We can’t care about the rule of law some of the time. We can’t care about corruption some of the time. It’s pass-fail,” he said.
His remarks come as the political debate surrounding the president’s son continues to escalate. Hunter Biden has been under scrutiny for tax-related offenses and alleged illegal gun possession, and Republicans have accused the Justice Department of favoring the president’s son in its handling of the case.
Platkin expressed concern about the broader implications of a pardon, warning that it could erode trust in the nation’s systems of accountability. “This pardon further weakens the fragile trust in our institutions that hold power to account,” he said.
