Registered Camden Offender Trafficked Young Children for Sex in New Jersey and Philadelphia

CAMDEN, NJ – Semaj A. Gilmore, a 34-year-old registered sex offender from Camden, was sentenced today to 260 months in prison for his involvement in the sex trafficking of minors. U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger made the announcement following a session in Camden’s federal court where U.S. Chief District Judge Renée Marie Bumb handed down the sentence after Gilmore pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Gilmore’s criminal activities spanned from September 2020 to April 2021, during which time he transported three minors from Philadelphia to New Jersey with the explicit intent of having them engage in commercial sex acts. All victims were under the age of 18 at the time of the offenses.

This sentencing comes in the wake of Gilmore’s prior conviction, which had already mandated his registration as a sex offender.

The court documents reveal that Gilmore not only facilitated but also directed these minors in their sexual exploitation for commercial purposes, exploiting their vulnerability for his gain.

Alongside the prison sentence, Gilmore has been ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release post-incarceration, a measure to ensure continued oversight of his activities after his release.

The investigation leading to Gilmore’s arrest and subsequent conviction was spearheaded by special agents from the FBI’s South Jersey Resident Agency, with commendations extended by U.S. Attorney Sellinger to Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs in Philadelphia. Assistance was also provided by the Mount Laurel Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, highlighting a cooperative effort among various law enforcement agencies to address this grave issue.
