A small dog leaves Ocean County facility for specialized senior sanctuary care.
Ocean County, NJ – A small shelter dog named Happy has been transferred out of the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility and into a rescue partner’s care, marking what staff described as a “freedom ride” and a turning point after a stressful shelter stay.
Happy was recently moved to Pattie’s Waggin’ Tails Senior Sanctuary, a rescue organization that focuses on providing care and placement for vulnerable dogs. Shelter officials said the dog had shown signs of fear and stress while in the facility, which contributed to behavioral challenges.
Volunteers and rescue partners coordinated transfer

Staff credited a network of volunteers and rescue partners for making the transfer possible, including daily efforts to socialize the dog and a rapid response from the sanctuary when help was requested.
“This little boy was full of spice and sass, most likely from being completely terrified and overwhelmed at the shelter,” the organization said. “Thankfully when we sent out a plea for rescue help, it was answered immediately.”
