HUNTINGTOWN, CALVERT COUNTY, MD – The Maryland State Fire Marshal has released details of a fire incident occurring on April 4, 2024, at a residence in Huntingtown, Calvert County, emphasizing the importance of fire safety in the home.
The fire broke out at approximately 1:11 p.m. at a two-story single-family dwelling located at 2300 Stella Drive, Huntingtown. Owned by George & Connie Smith, the home suffered significant damage due to the blaze, with an estimated loss of $125,000 to the structure and an additional $25,000 loss to the contents.
Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported from the incident. The home was equipped with a smoke alarm, which activated and played a crucial role in alerting the occupants. However, there were no fire alarms or sprinkler systems present in the property.
The Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responding fire department, with 40 firefighters managing to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes of their arrival. The fire was discovered by the homeowner and originated in the basement of the house. Investigations have determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
Following the fire, the Smith family received assistance from the American Red Cross.
