Robbery at Newark service plaza under investigation by state police

NEWARK, DEL. — The Delaware State Police are investigating an early morning robbery that took place Thursday at the Service Plaza on John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway.

Authorities say an unidentified male suspect entered an unlocked tractor-trailer in the parking lot at around 4:52 a.m. The driver, returning to the vehicle, was confronted by the suspect, who brandished a knife, stole the driver’s belongings, and fled the scene.

The driver was not physically injured during the incident, according to a police statement released Friday.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is leading the investigation and is urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
