OXON HILL, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Friday morning on Interstate 495 near the Anacostia Freeway in Prince George’s County.

Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:45 a.m., where they found a Jeep Compass that had collided with the rear trailer of a tractor-trailer parked on the left shoulder. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of the next of kin. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured and declined medical attention, according to police.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration supported the response by closing the affected lanes for several hours. The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted an inspection of the tractor-trailer as part of the investigation.
