HACKENSACK, N.J. — A Rochelle Park man was arrested Friday on assault and weapons charges after allegedly stabbing a pedestrian with a screwdriver during a confrontation on Essex Street, Hackensack Police said.
Agustin Fuentes-Sanchez, 55, was taken into custody without incident after officers responded to a report of a fight near Essex Street and Porter Avenue on July 25. Police determined that a dispute began when a 49-year-old pedestrian crossed Porter Avenue, causing a vehicle to stop abruptly. The pedestrian reportedly kicked the vehicle, prompting a confrontation with the passenger, identified as Fuentes-Sanchez.
During the altercation, Fuentes-Sanchez allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the victim, who sustained a minor puncture wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
Fuentes-Sanchez was charged with:
- Third-degree aggravated assault
- Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon
He was processed and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance at Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack.
