SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 31-year-old man is accused of trying to conceal his father’s fatal shooting by purchasing supplies from major retailers before allegedly dumping the body behind their shared home, according to court records in Bexar County. The case centers on the death of Daniel Antonio Ordonez, whose remains were discovered in a trash bag after relatives reported him missing and flagged unusual activity tied to his smartwatch.
Daniel Sebastian Ordonez faces charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and failing to report human remains. Investigators allege he bought items including towels, duct tape and a “mummy”-style sleeping bag from Walmart, then traveled to Home Depot for additional materials such as gloves, a shovel, a sledgehammer, acrylic sheets, cleaning solution, concrete mix and a trowel.
Shopping trail and surveillance footage
Court documents reviewed by the San Antonio Express-News detail how investigators traced the purchases through bank records and surveillance video. Police say the transactions occurred while Daniel Sebastian Ordonez was allegedly attempting to cover up his father’s death.
According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect was captured on store cameras buying the listed items before returning home, where authorities later discovered evidence of a cleanup. Officers reported signs of chemical use inside the residence consistent with attempts to remove blood.
Family report leads to discovery
The case began unfolding in early April when a family member contacted authorities to report Daniel Antonio Ordonez missing. The relative told police the man’s smartwatch showed “strange activity,” prompting a welfare check at the home.
Officers arriving at the property found the father’s phone and keys buried in a flower pot. A vehicle parked behind the house had a bullet hole in the rear window on the driver’s side, according to the affidavit.
While officers were at the scene, Daniel Sebastian Ordonez and his wife arrived and confirmed the father lived at the residence. They consented to a search, which led to the discovery of the body.
Evidence found at the scene
Investigators say the remains were located in a black trash bag placed on clear plastic sheeting behind the home. The affidavit states there was “blood leaking” from the bag and “drag marks in blood on the ground near the body.”
Inside the home, officers documented additional evidence suggesting a cleanup effort had taken place, including the use of bloodstain reagents.
An autopsy later determined Daniel Antonio Ordonez died from a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Daniel Sebastian Ordonez has denied involvement in the shooting and told investigators he did not know what happened to his father, according to court records. As of this week, he has only been charged in connection with concealing the body.
He remains in custody on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.
