Seaside Park police carry Flame of Hope in statewide tradition

Law enforcement agencies from across Ocean County joined forces for an annual run supporting Special Olympics New Jersey

SEASIDE PARK, N.J. — The Flame of Hope made its way through the Jersey Shore before sunrise Friday as Seaside Park police officers joined fellow law enforcement agencies in the annual Torch Run supporting Special Olympics New Jersey.

Officers from the Seaside Park Police Department, including Class 1, Class 2 and full-time personnel, took part in the statewide event aimed at raising awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes.

Police said Officer Buss carried the Flame of Hope, which will continue its journey across New Jersey alongside thousands of law enforcement officers participating in Torch Run events statewide.

The run began at the Island Beach State Park gatehouse, where officers gathered before setting off on the route.

Joining Seaside Park officers were members of the Toms River Police Department, New Jersey State Park Police, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run serves as one of the largest public awareness and fundraising efforts benefiting Special Olympics programs.

The Flame of Hope is carried through communities across New Jersey before arriving at Special Olympics events, symbolizing inclusion, determination and support for athletes throughout the state.
