Severe storms cause widespread damage power outages in Robbinsville Township

ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. — A severe weather event with wind gusts exceeding 60 mph swept through Robbinsville Township on Sunday evening, toppling trees, downing power lines, and causing multiple transformer fires, officials said.

The storm, which struck around 5:25 p.m., led to widespread disruptions, including trees falling on homes and vehicles, smoke conditions in a warehouse, and obstructed roadways. At one point, emergency crews were handling 18 active incidents simultaneously, according to the Robbinsville Township Police Department.

In response, the township activated its Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC). “OEM established mitigation strike teams, comprised of Police Officers teamed up with DPW chain saw crews and front-end loaders to clear and open roadways, while Robbinsville Fire Department handled fire and medical emergencies,” police said in a statement.

As of Monday morning, approximately 85 residents remain without power. Utility provider JCP&L has not yet provided an estimated restoration time but has deployed out-of-state utility crews and private contractors to assist.

Officials continue to monitor the situation as recovery efforts progress.
