Man busted for public intoxication after disturbance at Stafford Sheetz

Stafford, VA – A man was taken into custody Saturday night after allegedly causing a disturbance at a local Sheetz gas station while carrying open containers of alcohol and showing clear signs of intoxication.

Just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, a Stafford County deputy responded to a call at the Sheetz located at 15 Wyche Road, where employees requested that a disruptive individual be removed from the premises. Upon arrival, Deputy R. W. Stamm made contact with the man, who appeared visibly impaired.

The subject, identified as 58-year-old Ernest Lavender of Stafford, was reportedly holding a cup containing alcohol and a half-empty bottle at the time of the encounter. Deputy Stamm noted signs of intoxication including glassy, bloodshot eyes and behavior consistent with public drunkenness.

Lavender was arrested at the scene and charged with public intoxication. He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held until he was sober.
