NEW JERSEY — A 4-year-old German Shepherd named Nymeria remains in a New Jersey shelter as advocates continue to search for a foster home to save her from deteriorating conditions.

Nymeria was surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her. Though described as sweet and eager to play, she has become increasingly anxious and unsettled in the shelter environment, a condition common among her breed.

Despite her nervousness, Nymeria passed all behavioral assessments. Shelter staff report she does not guard food or toys, walks well once out of her kennel, and interacts gently with treats and toys. She previously lived with older children and shows no issues with dogs or cats.

Nymeria is listed as “rescue only” due to a medical diagnosis of early-stage kidney disease. The condition has reportedly responded well to supplements and management, but her recovery depends on leaving the shelter environment.

A rescue group has committed to taking her in, but cannot proceed without a foster. Advocates are urgently appealing to the public to assist, noting that all foster and rescue inquiries should be directed to kathleenfrett1@gmail.com.
